Our School
Principal’s Message
On behalf of our students, staff and families, welcome to Cheltenham East Primary School.
Our school provides a safe, harmonious, inclusive and stimulating learning environment, where academic achievement and student wellbeing is prioritised and nurtured. We care for, and appreciate, each of our students as the unique individuals that they are, each with distinct talents, interests and needs, and each with differing learning styles.
Our dedicated and passionate teachers ensure our students develop the 21st century skills necessary to engage successfully and confidently in our rapidly changing world. We use innovative, evidence based instructional approaches in Literacy and Numeracy, while also placing high importance on other areas of the curriculum such as Humanities (Geography, History, Civics and Citizenship and Economic/Business) Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Instrumental Music, Science, Physical Education and Italian.
Cheltenham East also promotes strong values education with our staff and students upholding our values of Respect, Responsibility, Courtesy and Co-operation. These values underpin the basis of how we interact positively with each other, and our environment. We are dedicated to preparing our students as socially adept, resilient and competent members of society.
There is high value placed on community participation with many opportunities to become involved in school events and activities. Providing assistance in the classroom, volunteering for excursions, parent/teacher interviews, involvement in school council and attendance at working bees are amongst a diverse list. The school has a dedicated Parent’s Committee who pride themselves in both a rigorous fundraising agenda and the coordination of social events.
Our school offers an ‘open door’ communications policy. We welcome your input and are always willing to address any concerns as quickly as possible. When we work together, we are able to offer your child the very best education possible.
I invite prospective parents and students to visit our school and look forward to working closely with you.
Robert Ridgway
Principal
Cheltenham East Primary School
Cheltenham East Primary School (CEPS) is situated in a quiet pocket of residential Cheltenham and draws it’s students from neighbouring kindergartens and day care centres. Our enthusiastic, dedicated staff provide a stimulating environment for our students who are continually encouraged to uphold our school motto of “Aim High”. Social and communication skills as well as values are inherent across our Victorian Curriculum, driven by our “CEPS Kids are Friendly Kids” programme. The Cheltenham East parent community is most supportive of the school and the implemented programmes, as is evidenced by our CHATS program (Class Helpers and Teacher Support).
Our curriculum engages students in their learning, exploring and explaining the topic through the use of technology. We have specialist teachers in Art and Music, with private instrumental tuition available. Student’s work is displayed throughout the school. Children participate in an annual concert and Wakakirri (Australian-wide Storydance competition) is held every other year. A physical education specialist teaches classes weekly. A Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is conducted in Foundation and Year 1 with parental support.
CEPS is over 60 years young and has undergone much re-modelling in recent years. This will be further enhanced by Government grants providing us with flexible attractive work spaces to facilitate student learning, preparing students for living in the 21st Century.
